The crystal clear tropical waters of Fiji, together with its extraordinary variety of marine life and coral reefs, makes the Fiji islands an ideal spot for snorkeling. Visibility in the water is unbelievable with distances of 100 ft (30 meters) being very common. The best times to go snorkeling in Fiji is May through to October. Snorkeling in Fiji is a far cheaper and easier way that scuba diving to explore the wonder of the world under the sea.

Known as the ’soft coral capital of the world’, Fiji boasts hundreds of reefs around the country’s numerous islands. These vary in type from fringing reefs and barrier reefs to atolls. Over 400 species of coral can be found in the waters around Fiji. There is easy access to a wide variety of diving and snorkeling sites and it’s no surprise that the world famous Jean Michel Cousteau has a dive base here.

Snorkeling in Fiji is an extremely popular pasttime - nearly every visitor to the country has a go - there’s so much to see under the water that makes the activity so rewarding and unforgettable. Snorkeling is also very inexpensive compared to diving, and you’ll find that nearly every resort in Fiji will hire snorkeling gear - mask, snorkel and fins - for a very reasonable rate.

There are many snorkeling sites in Fiji that are great for snorkeling but one area possibly offering the best variety of accessible sites is the area around Savusavu Bay on the island of Vanua Levu in the country’s north. There are many areas where snorkeling is only advisable at high tide, but in Savusavu you will always find a site where the snorkeling is superb.

While many resorts in Fiji offer dive packages, only a few offer snorkeling tours. These are becoming increasingly popular, because a snorkeling tour or snorkeling holiday is usually attended by a marine biologist or local expert. Of course, its extremely relaxing just to float with the fish, but having a guide along can make the experience so much more fascinating and enriching. Your guide will point out things while you are in the water, or show you a slide presentation and present more information back at the resort. While you’re in the water you’ll probably see things like rays, turtles, sharks, millions of fish and of course, the beautiful blue starfishes that Fiji is famous for.

Buying a swimming pool is quite an expensive investment. It’s very important to protect the purchase by keeping up with it’s maintenance and having the proper above ground pool supplies on hand. Failing to care for it properly could cost the owner thousands of dollars in repair or replacement.

Perhaps some of the most important products that will be needed are the chemicals that treat water quality. There are a wide variety of different chemicals needed to balance pH levels of the water. There are also shock treatments as well as algae treatments for cases where water gets infected by algae or fungus.

It’s important to treat the water with chlorine as well. There are kits for starting up each season, winter water maintenance, and specialty testing strips to see if the water is suitable for use. Buying these products online is a good alternative for those who are looking for discounted prices.

In order to protect the frame, a high quality liner must be installed. The best type are made of one hundred percent vinyl, and must be installed by professionals. If the liner is not installed properly, irreparable damage can be done to the frame. It’s good to have patches for holes or rips in the liner as well. Ignoring a small hole for too long can result in severe structural damage, and may result in a total loss of the pool.

A great way to maximize the swimming season is to have a heater installed. Extend the length of time used for swimming each year by installing the heating device. A thermometer is necessary as well to monitor the temperature and make sure the water will be comfortable.

Entertaining people will be fun if some floating accessories are around to play with. Nets for playing volleyball are available and it’s fun to have a few inflatable balls around. Relaxing on floating rafts is fun for all ages. Squirt guns, Frisbees, mechanical fish, and floating disco lights keep the children entertained.

When buying the above ground pool supplies necessary for keeping it functioning and healthy, it’s critical not to forget about the pump and filter system. In order to keep the water safe for swimming, it must be filtered and pumped through the filtration system. Keeping the water safe protects the people who swim as well as the investment itself.

Are you looking to purchase an above ground pool heater because you want to make the most out of your swimming pool? You’ll find it’s a good idea. There are several models and types of heaters available that give you quick and easy control over the temperature of your water so that you can enjoy it year round!

There are so many models and options to think about and the price range is rather impressive, with some as little as a couple hundred dollars while others cost several thousand. Think of how much you’re going to budget for your heater and then start looking at what models fall into your price range.

Once you’ve decided on how much you want to spend, you’ll then have to consider what you want the fuel to be for your heater, because that too can affect the price. There are solar, electric, gas, and propane models available, and what you choose will affect installation. A gas heater, for instance, will require you to have a gas pipe run through your yard to the pool if you haven’t got one yet.

Electric heaters will of course require outdoor outlets available and solar heaters will require a nice sunny spot so that you get optimal use out of them. If your pool area is shaded or you’re hoping to use your heater during cloudy months when you don’t get a lot of sunshine, a solar heater probably won’t be a good idea.

Think about what would be the most comfortable option for your yard in terms of installation, and what would be most comfortable for you in terms of heating costs. Think about the differences between gas and electricity before you choose.

One thing you won’t have to worry too much about is installation of the heater itself. These pool heaters are usually fairly straightforward to install and simple to use. Don’t worry about having to have someone to come in to do the installation for you.

And don’t forget to take into consideration the size and heat output of your heater. Know the surface area of your pool, the temperature you’d like to keep it at, and the average temperature of the coldest month you want to swim in. Using this information will help determine how powerful a model you need.

Swimming pools are a wonderful way to get exercise and enjoy the summer, but think of how much you’d be able to extend your swim season if there was an above ground pool heater to enjoy the experience even on chilly days!

The Maldives is an little island nation consisting of over a 1,100 little coral islands strewn across the Indian Ocean. It’s really a snorkeling and scuba diving heaven and one that is popular throughout every season mainly because of its temperate climate. The Maldives averages thirty degrees Celsius all year round or 86 degrees F.

Simply put, the Maldives provide you with an ideal snorkeling and scuba diving spot teeming with exotic schools of fish of countless species. Just to name just a few, there are black and white snappers, humpback snappers, barracuda, unicornfish, yellowback fusiliers, and trevally jacks.

Snorkeling and scuba diving while in the Maldives is unequalled the world over. The large variety and number of fish that exist here is awe inspiring. Scuba divers and snorkelers will never be bored, not for a moment, nor will anyone ever have the exact same dive experience twice! There are way too many things to see on any one dive; you should probably consider going on several dives to acquire an appreciation of the awe inspiring life residing in these waters.

Veteran snorkelers and scuba divers highly recommend visiting the Maldives while water visibility is at its peak; between January and March. Other times of the year, water visibility is generally murky. Dive rookies hire boats in Male, the capital city. However, skilled scuba divers preferring out of the way places may rent boats to take them to the outer reaches where its less inhabited.

Your resort’s concierge can make recommendations on an excellent diving or snorkeling location. You should have limited use of only only a few spots near to your resort. If you’re a diving fanatic, then think about booking a liveaboard. A liveaboard is a dive boat developed for those who love scuba diving and wish to live on a boat for a time as it journeys to various areas specifically for scuba diving and/ or snorkeling.

Liveaboards can easily access to remote areas that few people ever see. For example Baa Atoll which is a fantastic dive and snorkeling area. Encompassing Baa Atoll are deserted islands without a living soul for miles. This really is indeed true paradise exactly where beautiful scuba diving can be achieved.

Other less visited destinations include Ari and Felidhu Atolls. You’ll find sharks and manta rays dwelling side by side. Bear in mind, most remote scuba diving venues require intermediate to advanced experience and they are reserved for the individual seeking the best adventure!

Ari Atoll is an atoll measuring in excess of 80 kilometers in length rendering it one of the biggest atolls within the Maldives. Ari Atoll is renowned for its developed tourist area, nonetheless it offers remarkable diving and snorkeling sites that shouldn’t be missed. Northern Ari Atoll is home base to the whale shark that can only be found while scuba diving.

Talked about here are just a handful of spots you can scuba dive or snorkel while visiting the Maldives. Diving and snorkeling in the Maldives ranks as a once in a lifetime adventure. However, you’ll want to comeback again and again. If you think you’re an accomplished snorkeler, then try scuba Maldives style the next time! When you have scuba dived in the Maldives, you might never want do it any place else, I promise.

One of the nicest luxuries of summer is a swimming pool. They can make the heat more bearable, provide exercise for the entire family and can be a source of entertainment. There are a couple of drawbacks to owning one though; they are sometimes expensive to purchase and they can be difficult to keep clean. Above ground pool cleaners can make this job easier if you choose the right one.

There are only a few varieties of cleaning vacuums for swimming pools. For less used pools there are suction-side cleaners. More active pools may require the pressure-side version and for really active pools you may want to consider a completely automatic robotic version. Each type of cleaner provides a specific degree of clean depending on how much your pool is used.

If your pool is not used very often or is small, then a suction style cleaner should be sufficient to keep it clean. They actually use your present filtration system to pick up debris from the bottom of the pool. They attach directly to the intake side of your filtering pump to literally suck the dirt off of the bottom. They only work when your pump is turned on and working properly though. In the event that your pump becomes stopped up, the vacuum will cease to function.

There problem with this type of vacuum is large debris can clog up the filter basket preventing it from sucking up any small debris. There is a fix for it in the form of a leaf trap. This trap can be installed in the filter to remove the leaves without stopping up the works. This is extremely handy when your pool is located around large vegetation or trees.

The pressure versions of cleaners use your filtering systems exhaust side to blow the debris around and forces it into an attached bag. The bag can then be removed and cleaned at a later time. It is important to remember to clean it because it too can become stopped up and prevent the vacuum from operating properly. It provides better results but is slightly more expensive.

The cost of this cleaner will depend on the options chosen when purchasing it. Booster pumps are not included in the purchase of these vacuums and must be purchased separately. They can be expensive and do require a specific line to be installed that is independent of your pump and filtration system. They can be costly but are less costly than the robotic versions.

For a more automatic cleaner manufacturers have developed a robotic vacuum. These work independently from any other system your pool may use. A computer chip helps it learn the shape and contour of your pool. Some are even available with remote controls so you can assist it in spots that it may have originally missed.

Automatic cleaners are usually much more expensive than those that operate along with your filtering and pump system. This is because they provide much more functionality. Above ground pool cleaners are a must if you have a swimming pool in your back yard to help keep it clean and keep you from working too hard.

An above ground pool pump will guarantee your pool will be cleaned correctly. These pumps are supposed to use the filter to pump water through it, pushing water in and out of the pool. It is not a complicated process to install one for a pool; in fact, one person can put it together. This process can be done in within an hour and soon you will be able to swim in your new pool!

Measure the place where the pump will be on. This should be close to the skimmer. You will dig a hole, the size of the patio block your pump will sit on. In this hole you will place the patio block; place the pool pump on that.

Now the skimmer will need to be connected. There are hose clamps that need to be placed on the hose. These must be left on loosely. One end should attach to beneath the skimmer at the wall. You can now tighten the screws. Connect the other end to the pump and tighten these clamps.

The return hose needs to be connected. Take the clamps and place them on both ends on the hose. Take one end and attach it to the wall of the return part of the pool. Tighten the clamp. The other end of that hose goes on the filter return. Typically, this is found on top of it. Tighten this clamp too.

The filter discharge is the next thing to connect. There is a union between the pump and the filter. You will need pliers used for the water pump to tighten these. Sometimes no union is present; in this case, you need another hose with clamps. With the hose, one end goes on top of the pump for the pool and the other goes where it says pump in on the filter. Again, tighten the clamps.

Put the filter cartridge on the filter. Fill it with sand if you do not have the cartridge. It is now time to turn it on. Plug it up and if you find any leaks, check the hoses to make sure the clamps are tight enough; you may have to tighten them.

You have now installed your above ground pool pump. You should add all the necessary chemicals and research how to care for your pool. You can contact a pool store and talk to an employee if you have any questions. Enjoy your pool!

Professional deep sea diving or commercial diving is a profession that is not for all people. In this profession, you have to be in good physical condition and you also need to have a sharp mind. Being a commercial diver is not only about knowing how to weld pipes undersea and being able to handle explosives, there are a lot of specialty courses that you can focus on in commercial diving.

These days, there are specialist schools for professional diving. There, you will get the opportunity to develop into a certified commercial diver as well as take specialty courses that appeal to you the most.

Basically, most commercial divers take welding courses. If you take the specialist undersea welding course, you will be taught the skills required to make high quality fillet welds. You will also be introduced to theories regarding the welding process and safe working practice while welding underwater.

In this course, each issue will be covered with lectures and actual test situations where you will be taken underwater for a simulated welding situation.Normally, you will learn nine different topics on this course.

The first will cover safe underwater welding procedures; the second, welding plant and equipment; the third, techniques; the fourth, the preparation of the weld; the fifth, welding terminology and electrodes; the sixth, basic weldability and common weld defects; the seventh, how to monitor and control welding operations; the eighth, quality assurance and control and the ninth is joining steel plates using the three regular welding techniques.

Taking an underwater welding course can provide you with a lot of employment opportunities in a commercial diving career. By becoming a certified underwater welder, you will be in demand by the shipping, construction and oil and gas industries.

Air mixed gas commercial diving is also a specialist course in the commercial diving industry. On this one, you will be taught about the different gas mixes that divers breathe. Regular air, nitrox, trimix, whatever, you will be taught how to mix them all.

A pressure tolerance test is also integrated in this particular course. You will also learn about the effects of certain gases on the body when diving. For instance, you will be taught about nitrogen and its hallucinogenic effects on the brain when breathed under pressure, and you will also be taught about oxygen toxicity and why helium is a preferred gas for breathing when diving in very deep waters.

You will also be taught about decompression and dive medicines as well as hyperbaric medication. Safety planning is another crucial part of the course as well as the commercial uses of scuba.

Underwater construction is also covered under this course as well as inland diving and equipment maintenance, especially that of the gas systems.

The diver medic specialist is another specialized course in commercial diving. After passing it, you will become a dive medical technician who will be responsible for making safer and better prepared dives.

You will be taught about the effects of protracted diving on the body and also about the different ailments that divers can experience, such as decompression sickness and extreme fatigue. You will also be taught how to care for divers who have experienced accidents during dives as well as hyperbaric medicine and treatment.

The above are just a few of the specialty courses that you can follow in commercial diving.

As you can tell, there are a lot of career opportunities in the sphere of deep sea diving. By choosing the specialty course you want to learn about, you can be in no doubt that you will have an enjoyable and much brighter future in the world of professional diving.

A swimming pool in your own backyard may seem like the epitome of luxury and in some ways, it is. Spending the lazy days of summer relaxing in your own swimming pool with no crowds to fight and no scheduled hours to contend with is indeed pleasant. However, a pool is a commitment that requires a fair amount of work and expense in exchange for the privileges. Where you live, how much use your pool will get, and how much time you can commit to its maintenance are all factors that play a role in deciding if you should install a pool.

In-Ground Pools Versus Above-Ground Pools

There are essentially two types of swimming pools, in-ground and above-ground. An in-ground pool is by far the greater expense but it’s typically the longer-lasting choice. An in-ground pool has several advantages over its above-ground counterpart, with the primary advantage being size and varied depth. Conversely, an above-ground pool is typically less of an initial investment and, while limited in size and depth, can be a good alternative. Years ago, above-ground pools were considered less aesthetic; however modern designs have incorporated more varied styles, trim packages and decking that make them considerably more attractive.

Regardless of your preference, your local zoning laws may have a bearing on the type of pool you can have. Smaller lots may be limited by zoning variances and building codes that limit the size of pool you can install. You will need to check with your local building inspector or zoning department to inquire about the rules in your area.

Safety Concerns

Before installing a pool of any type, make sure you have the ability to provide the necessary safety measures. If you have small children in your household or even small children who live nearby, you need to make certain that access to the pool cannot be attained without your knowledge. As a matter of building code, in almost every area a fence is required around the entire perimeter of the pool or portion of the yard where the pool is located. Safety covers and alarms are other safety measures you might consider, especially for in-ground pools. Be sure you’ve thought the safety concerns through before beginning installation. It’s also a good idea to double check with your insurance policy to see if you need to place additional riders on your policy for a pool. These are all valid considerations that also add to the overall expense.

Expense

Obviously, there is an initial expense incurred when installing a pool but be sure you understand that it is a continuous additional expense to operate and maintain. Chemicals, water, energy consumed for running the pump, lighting, and optional heating, as well as maintenance and supply expenses like repairing torn liners, replacing pump parts, and so forth. The expense of maintaining and operating a pool will vary with the size and type of pool but keep in mind it is a routine expense so be sure you can live with it.

Chemical Attraction

There is a dispute among even pool professionals regarding the best type of water sanitizing system. There are basically two options — chlorination and salt water systems. Each one has their advantages and disadvantages, and you should research both options thoroughly to decide what your preference will be. Also keep in mind that you will have to learn a bit about pool water chemistry to keep your pool in clean, operating order. Maintaining pH levels and water clarity as well as proper sanitary levels takes a bit of practice.

Property Value

Having a grip on the expense and maintenance involved with owning a pool is important but you should also keep in mind the overall impact a pool will have on your property. While a pool can be a definite amenity to one homeowner, it in no way guarantees added property value. In fact, some homes experience a reduction in property value as the result of a pool addition. If you live in a warm climate where pools get the most annual use, it can be considered an amenity. However, in cooler climates with defined seasons of just three months, a pool may be considered a liability during resale. If you can live with the consequences either way, invest in what makes you happy now and worry about property value later.

Choosing a Contractor

Whether you hire a swimming pool contractor to dig an in-ground pool or purchase an above-ground pool from a retailer, make sure they stand behind their product. A warranty should be standard and cover all parts for a minimum of one year. Typically, electrical parts will be warrantied for longer.

Also make sure to deal with a contractor or retailer who has experience installing pools in your area and is familiar with codes. A contractor with localized experience and service is a better bet than an unknown out-of-town contractor.

Timing Is Everything

As long as you’ve considered your purchase carefully and have committed to the maintenance, the last thing you should know is that timing the installation is important. While it may seem logical to wait until the weather is at its hottest to install a pool, it may be to your benefit to install in the off season. Some pool retailers offer better pricing in the fall and early spring, and are more likely to schedule the job at your convenience. If you’ve chosen an in-ground pool, keep in mind that most contractors won’t (and shouldn’t) dig in the winter or during the rainy season. Time your decision so you get the best deal but also so you can get the quickest return on your investment.

There is quite a bit of information to cull when considering installing a pool but all things considered, owning a pool can be a very satisfying and rewarding experience that you and your family can enjoy for years to come.

Many people search for active adult communities online but what is an active adult community and why are they so desirable? In this brief article we will explore these communities and explain why they are so desirable.

The demand from seniors aged 55 and older seeking a community of like minded neighbors who also had an interest in an active lifestyle, sparked the flurry in the construction of these communities over the past decade or longer.

A new wave of active adult communities is starting to emerge as “dinks”, couples over 40 years of age with no kids, have expressed an interest in these communities. Developers have started changing community rules and developing new communities to meet the demand.

Many of these active adult communities have state-of-the-art fitness centers that feature a wide array of cardio and strength training machines. Staff trainers conduct classes on yoga and other aerobic activity in a safe and monitored environment.

Swimming pools and tennis courts are available to residents year round in many cases. Some communities even have golf courses for avid golfers. Those that do not have golf courses generally have arrangements with local public and semi-private courses.

Another feature of these communities is the low maintenance homes. Many are what is referred to as patio homes where the home sits on a concrete slab foundation that rests level with the ground. Low maintenance features like brick veneer and vinyl siding, aluminum and vinyl eaves and soffits, vinyl windows, and asphalt shingles allow for easier cleaning and protection from the exterior elements.

Manufactured and modular homes are popular choices for developers who construct these communities due to there reduce construction times and flexibility with options.

Closing Thoughts About Active Adult Communities

With people living longer now due to active lifestyles and better medical care, active adult communities show no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Seniors and dinks looking to get more out of life will likely continue to fuel this growth for years to come.

There are many of us who will be watching the summer olympics. There is no doubt about that. However, there are some of us who will be watching different things. There are a number of sports that are quite popular during this time. What are some of those? Let’s take a look at them. You might find some that you find to be quite awesome as well.

When it comes to sports, there are some men and women alike who love baseball. There are many who have followed any sort of baseball and the same goes for this type. There are many good countries out there and they all hope that their team is going to win. That is how the olympics goes. Every country wants to be on top.

Another summer sport would be baseball. Many of us think about the old song where you are supposed to root for your home team. To some extent, we do root for our home team as we root for our country. When it comes to this, you will find out that as much as we love our baseball here, it’s even more interesting to watch on the big screen and on an international level.

If you like horses, then you might like another suggestion of a summer sport to watch. This would be equestrian sport. It’s interesting to watch how gentle the horses are and how they simply glide. This can be fun to watch as well. You will see when you watch the riders with the horses.

Everyone needs a little fun in the water. When it comes to the water, swimming is another summer sport that many tune in to watch during the olympics. They are record fast. It’s fun to see who takes the gold, silver, and the bronze. It’s even better when your country takes home the gold. This is just another of the many sports that they tune into watch. What is another one?

There are many animal lovers out there and one animal that really has become a sport are horses. These are other games that many tune into. There are some very well known horse riders that practice equestrian and we can see why. It’s amazing at how gentle the horses look and how calm the riders look. They all want to bring home the gold and we know this. We watch in anticipation.

Last of all, when it comes to sports to be played during the summer olympics, that would be sailing and rowing. You can’t do this during the winter as the water is frozen solid. So, many gather for the summer part to watch these two sports. It’s a grand time to see how fast some of them move once the boat hits the water.

There are many other sports, but you can see some of the more famous ones for which people tune into. It keeps things pretty interesting. No matter what sport you like you are pretty sure to be able to find it during the 2012 summer olympics. That is what many find out. So, see when they start and tune into the sport of your choice. We just gave you a summer preview.
